Many instructors, online and traditional, find that using rubrics to assess student work is beneficial. Using rubrics improves consistency of grades between students and ensures fairness in the grading process. Assessing work using a rubric saves the instructor time and also provides rich, detailed feedback to the student about the quality and content of their work. Providing students with a rubric when the assignment is given also reduces anxiety and improves student work by communication clear expectations.
